Edition NIkO:
Edition NIkO was founded/curated and art directed by Japanese-American sound artist shotahirama in 2007. It is a label cooperation for electronic music based in Tokyo. The main interest was to give uniting sound and art design with strong attention to scientific sequences, Dada, Bauhaus, and drone ambient sound scapes. A surrealistic minimalism. So, priority is to publish series with focus on a specific philosophy of music/ sound/ art composing. Also it is a platform for conceptional and experimental related projects in music, art and sciencemusic both by myself (shotahirama) and by other artists and musicians. All NIkO releases have been on either MP3 or CDR (mostly mp3) as I feel that these formats currently offer the most appropriate form of reproduction. But its basically, a non-profit label..... NIkO Label was closed down at the end of 2008 and reopened in January 2009 as Edition NIkO.

Edition NIkO also organize a "Deep Listening Chair Festival", it is one of most famous Tokyo's festival for Experimental Digital Music and related Visual Arts. Festival takes place under the theme Surrealistic Minimalism. Sound and other media since 2007 at various venues in Tokyo. DLC will address both theoretical and practical aspects of today’s independent and experimental music production at the intersections of digital music and sound & media arts. Artists, experts and theorists will present their work as a means to pool knowledge and sketch out the sector’s future prospects. Visitors can hone their personal skills in workshops designed to encourage and support DIY experimentation. Selected projects and initiatives will demonstrate what they do in a hybrid formats fusing exhibitions and work-in-progress sessions that engage visitors’ participation. Actions and installations will illustrate further examples of creative output wiring music, art and digital culture.

Edition NIkOはSurrealistic Minimalismを掲げ、パリ、ベルリン、バルセロナ、ロンドン、ニューヨークそ してここ日本と、世界中の電子音響家を擁するネットレーベルである。コンピューターで 生成されるマイクロスコピックな電子音を構成素とし、抽象的な音響空間を創出するため 、個々のそのデジタルクリエーションの中に「常識を外れた奇妙で既存の状態を超越して いる状況」を提示するsurrealisticなartistが集まる。レーベルディ レクターは、ダダやバウハウスなどの反社会主義性と合理主義的な思想をモデルに、スペ インや ロンドンを中心にヨーロッパでのリリース／ライブ活動を続けるサウンドアーティスト、 shotahirama (平間翔太)。

これまでに、ポルトガルからSTORUNGやEME等多くの電子音響フェスティバルに出演しRaster notonらとの共演が記憶に新しい音響家Jerome Faria (NNY)や、フランスのサウンドアーティストでここ日本でもTetsuo Furudateとの共演で知られているKasper T Toeplitz、ベルリンからは[-hyph-]の名義でマルチメディアアーティストとして数々の賞を受賞しているNicolas Wiese等、ヨーロッパを中心に多くのアーティストがこのEdition NIkOから作品をリリースしている。またアジアからも、香港音響の新世代SinnedやZen Lu、Edwin Loをはじめ多くの新進気鋭の音響作家が参加している。もちろん日本国内からもYuji Kondoやenormous O'clockなど若手音響家がこれまでに作品を多数リリースしている。

また同レーベルがオーガナイズを務める電子音響イベント、Deep Listening Chairも東京Loop Lineにて２００７年から１年に１度、有名無名問わず国内の電子音響家が一同に集まり個々のデジタルクリエーションの表現の場として、毎年開催されている。これまでにも、フランス電子音響家でmille plateauxからのリリースが代表的であるchristophe charlesや、80年代より活動を続けるノイズ・ミュージシャンのTetsuo Furudate、spekkやkranky等の幽玄な持続音響が美しい音響家Chihei Hatakeyama等、ゲストアーティストを交えながら、大阪、京都、長野等国内の様々な地域から数多くの電子音響家を招集し、Edition NIkOのレーベルカラーを示すショーケースとなっている。

Highly influenced by constructivism and a strong advocate of the integration of technology and industry into the arts, #7 from Edition NIkO, "Moholism". Constructivism was an artistic and architectural movement that originated in Russia from 1919 onward which rejected the idea of "art for art's sake" in favour of art as a practice directed towards social purposes. This album contains 8 artists from Tokyo, Kanagawa, Fukuoka, and from Russia, with 7 tracks inspired by Constructivist Graphic Design, like Rodchenko, El Lissitzky, and strongly inspired by Laszlo Moholy-Nagy. The word "Moholism" was made up by shotahirama using this great german-constructivists. Those Constructivists were early pioneers of the techniques of photomontage. Which is one of most important method for us (Edition NIkO). Using Max Bill art design (Swiss architect, artist, painter, typeface designer, industrial designer and graphic designer), we are proud to announce this 7th release from label, and this will be the 1st music album for Constructivism! New release from shotahirama, his band "ENG/electronoise group". The Ultimate DOKUMENT of time of a historical Band. ENG (electronoise group), a Myth, a Cult, a Philosophy. After more than 6 months of planing and organising this momumental release is finally realised. Edition NIkO is proud to present a limited 100 copies paper sleeve CDR that documents the first 4 years and the first stage of the band. CDR with original design by shotahirama dedicated to his respect John Heartfield. Besides the official File-Releases such as Barcelona, Kollaps from Tecnonucleo and Alg-a, this CDR also includes live recordings from their concert at BankART 1929 museum, Yokohama in 06, and also Shunt Club, London in 08, their first concert at loopline in 06, the Enban Concert at Tokyo in 09, plus a few more live-documents. "Dokument 2006-2009"と題された今作は、Nurse with woundやHNAS等のビザール音響をモデルに日本のサウンドアート新世代として０６年の結成以来、１００以上のライブ、インスタレーション、そしてヨーロッパでのインスタレーションフェスティバル出演等、その活動を精力的に行ってきた彼らの初のベスト盤となる２枚組CDRによるドキュメント作品。不特定多数による集団即興や、テープコラージュ、ノイズコンクレートをモデルにした、彼らの2006年から2009年までの活動音源をすべてコンパイル。
最初期のインスタレーション音源（横浜BankART 1929 museumや東京Loopline）、そして彼らのリリース作品（"Barcelona"、"Kollaps"）からの代表曲はもちろん、イギリス、ロンドンでのツアー音源（Dada Lives Tour）、またJ-WAVE Radio Sakamoto、オーストリアGrantzにてOAされた"Fruhling"、さらには幻のリリースとなったアメリカRaash Recordsからの作品"Behind your blind lies"からの作品等、未発表曲を含めた全２３曲を収録。 オリジナルフォトモンタージュにライナー、インナースリーブスも付いた100セット限定販売。(disk union)
