Info: Highly influenced by constructivism and a strong advocate of the integration of technology and industry into the arts, #7 from Edition NIkO, "Moholism". This album contains 8 artists from Tokyo, Kanagawa, Fukuoka, and from Russia, with 7 tracks inspired by Constructivist Graphic Design, like Rodchenko, El Lissitzky, and strongly inspired by Laszlo Moholy-Nagy. The word "Moholism" was made up by shotahirama using this great german-constructivists. Those Constructivists were early pioneers of the techniques of photomontage. Which is one of most important method for us (Edition NIkO). Using Max Bill art design (Swiss architect, artist, painter, typeface designer, industrial designer and graphic designer), we are proud to announce this 7th release from label, and this will be the 1st music album for Constructivism! 2008: "Baconism"
release date: 25th Dec. 2008price: Free Down Load buy: BOXSTR.net cat number: NI005 format: File, mp3 cover design: shotahirama Track List: 1.Sand Dune by NNY 2.aSTUDYtowardsINTROJECTION by [-hyph-] 3.Steamline by Darren McClure 4.animot amourtalite mon frottage by SIFIR 5.Hexst_Francis_Bacon by Kasper 6.Metropole by shoeb ahmad 7.wohnungHasenMaster by HAARMANN 8.KATTACK by JANDEATH 9.Boyz2Noise by MICLO DIET Review: Abstraction from the Human Form... Diseases of the mouth bold, Crucifixion... austere, and often grotesque or nightmarish imagery. NIkO will introduce 9 artists, the individualistic experimentation, artificial intelligence and their experimental electronic sound dedicated to Francis Bacon. Its form, frequency and line, click and glitch, cut and paste, layers and drone, to create a composition which exists independently of visual references to the world. Today we are going to release out our 5th album, "Baconism". This is a compilation for the first anniversary of this NIkO Label. And those 9 artists from Berin, Hamburg, Paris, Madeira, Canberra, Tokyo, are expressing their Abstraction, and making surrealistic sound works in this experimental electronic music album "Baconism". Like Bacon's themes in "Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a Crucifixion", the triptych format, the placement behind glass in heavily gilded frames, the open mouth, and the use of painterly distortion; Furies, in the Oresteia of Aeschylus and the theme of the Crucifixion, some tracks contain complex or chaotic rhythms and close harmonies which some hear as random and noisy and violence. Some are using the term post-digital to describe various experimentations associated with the glitch aesthetic like distortion painting. Some are rhythmic but minimal electronic and long tracks of dense, hypnotic, atmospheric sound. Some are drone and illbient, queer sound-scape, like an image of flat burnt orange background in bacon's artwork. (-text by Edition NIkO) Japanese: flickr |
"Geometrik Conceptualism"
release date: 31st Aug. 2008price: Free Down Load buy: BOXSTR.net cat number: NI004 format: File, mp3 cover design: shotahirama Track List: 1.Sea Wall#1 by Edwin Lo 2.Spacescape by Edwin Lo 3.Hidden Operation by Edwin Lo 4.Sea Wal#2 by Edwin Lo 5.Auditory Scenes by Edwin Lo 6.In the memory of by Edwin Lo Review: Work by Hong kong sound artist Edwin Lo. Edwin's silent and secret of soundscape, people can't ignore this if u are interested in Francisco Lopez, Ralph Steinbruchel or Jason Kahn. Edwin Lo is a sound artist, field recordist and phonographer form Hong kong. He is currently finishing his final year of Degree in School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong. Through different experiments on sound ---- whatever in computer or in recording process ---- Edwin Lo tries to think sound as an object of desire, as haunting memories and experiences, and articulation of our consciousness and awareness on listening. Wonderful view from unknown landscape. He focused on the sound of nature and its effect on humans, field recordings and the perception of time and space as experienced through sound, often electronically treated. But not like sample-loops, or no electronoise or something like digital, which is most beautiful part of his works and i can see some influences in it, his passion for architecture, photography, and interior design. This album is dedicated to Walter De Maria. (De Maria emerged as a leader of the Earthworks movement in 1968 when he filled the Galerie Heiner Friedrich in Munich with dirt. Earthworks and serial geometric sculpture continue to occupy De Maria in the 1970s: his Three Continent Project was completed in 1972 and the Lightning Field, one of his most accomplished work of land-art, in New Mexico was finished in 1977. He lives and works in New York. In 2000 two of his conceptual recordings from 1964 and 1968 finally came out on a self released CD. text from discogs) (-text by Edition NIkO) Japanese: flickr |
"NEUBAUTEN"
release date: 25th Dec. 2008price: Free Down Load buy: BOXSTR.net cat number: NI003 format: File, mp3 cover design: shotahirama Track List: 1.Oil by NI.+SHARP 2.Negativ Land by NI. 3.Machine Age Voodoo by NI.+s Am0. 4.Dada Compuesto by NI.+enormous O'clock 5.Auto by NI.+shunjiTAKAMI+Toshitaka Ikeda 6.GAS by NI.+moze 7.mekano rebuild by NI.+Yuji Kondo+cOLLAGE Review: "NEUBAUTEN" is a word from my legendary respect Einstürzende Neubauten. And their name in English literally means "Collapsing New Buildings," where "New Buildings" describes a type of architecture common in post-WWII Germany (large concrete box-style buildings) and "Collapsing" is an adjective in this context, not a verb. This album were made by file sending process, collaps and rebuild their sound-file, mp3, WAV, aiff, snd, doing mail-art with other laptop artists in Japan, and show us a wonderful but extremely ill and sick of technoid-rhythmic production of glitch, sinewave, higher-frequency pulse sonic-music. This is for sonics for maniacs. Curation was legendary laptop duets by shotahirama and yy_zz from Hong kong, called "NI." There project ideal was to express the content of various psycho-pathalogical conditions, especially schizophrenia, manic - depressive psychosis, mental retardation and paranoia. It was very similar to shotahirama's main project ENG (electronoise group) but instead ENG uses free-improv and drone text, NI uses only sound-files and making rhythmic technoise sounds. Information Overload supersedes normal, rational thought structures, forcing deviation into less restrictive mental procedures of so-called 'mental illness'. NI was trying to be a voice for those individuals condemned to the slow decay of mental hospitals and chemical, electro, surgical therapy, without fetishising them into blatant entertainment product. But NI was also described as "hard hitting, noise tinged electro-industrial", the music was loaded with infectious and penetrating rhythms perfect for dance floors. They split and ended up after they released out this album. (-text by Edition NIkO) Japanese: flickr |
"POSTISM"
release date: 14th Feb. 2008price: Free Down Load buy: BOXSTR.net cat number: NI002 format: File, mp3 cover design: shotahirama Track List: 1.Oniono by Anytone/KWC 2.I was trying to tell her something... by Kim_Nasung 3.Hammer in her hand... by Kim_Nasung 4.comeout by Toshitaka Ikeda 5.plain.1 by s Am0. 6.Love is Blind, and You are such a Loveless Blind Man by sherman 7.Noism by SASAKI hiroaki 8.He came and his eyes blinked... by Kim_Nasung 9.OBESITY by MICLO DIET 10.mekano by NI.+Yuji Kondo Review: "Postism" is a word made up by shotahirama, and it comes from "Post me your expressionism!" This concept was a dedication for the "Mail Art" during the late 70's in Los Angels, US. Like L.A.F.M.S (Los Angels Free Music Society) people were making music by sending their own tapes to the community and collage them up and making a huge noise-concrete sound, and they call it as an Art. And that is the most important meanings for this POSTISM project. The best part for this album was its 1st track, Anytone/KWC. He made a mournful drift of high-sheen Ambience music. And an other Hong kong artist, sherman. Sound like Juan Hidalgo's "Rrose Selavy". (-text by Edition NIkO) Japanese: coming soon... |

2007: "Chainsia"
release date: 27th Dec. 2007price: Free Down Load buy: BOXSTR.net cat number: NI001 format: File, mp3 cover design: shotahirama Track List: 1.memorandum for players by Provoke 2.Ground Haze by Darren McClure 3.Night Bird by Zen Lu 4.ghostloop by MICLO DIET 5.erume. by yy_zz 6._hryk.25 by Yuji Kondo 7.40X51cm by Toshitaka Ikeda 8.the 7th troidal line by Urajiro 9.LiquidSunshine by Linda Bjalla 10.Bushman by Sin:Ned 11.Untitled #2 by capricornus 12.mediaerror by NI. Review: 1st release and 1st label compilation for Edition NIkO. "CHAINSIA" is a new word comes from "Chain+Asia". It was a beginning for label's world wide expansion in Aisa, its cultural network through various initiative internationally, Hong kong, Tokyo, Osaka. Like Zen Lu from Shenzhen, China, is an experimental musician and sound artist, hosted and founded We Play!Records, and he is the founder of Neo Sound group. Zen is one of most influential sound artist in China. And from Hong kong, Sin:Ned, is also powerful in Asia. He spends much of his time hacking and sculpting sonic materials with his laptop and various electronic gears. He has been release out his first solo release, "uroborus: a study on no-input device" from lona records. And those young and progressive chinese laptop artists passed there identity to Japanese new age laptop artists. Like yuji kondo, is a sound artist and composer from osaka and kyoto. He makes compositions using computer programs, and restructure the sounds such as snow noise, sine wave, stylus tip noise, tape hiss, impulse click, field recording sources, acoustic percussion instruments, random tuning electric bass guitar tones, and voices in unconventional ways. generated materials are fed back by the matrix-switch system on daw software, and are used in music.
